No dia 19 de julho de 2023, o defensor de direitos humanos José Vargas Sobrinho Junior teve sua inocência confirmada após o juiz criminal de Redenção, Pará, proferir sentença de impronúncia por falta de provas contra ele. Em 24 de julho de 2023, encerrou o prazo para o Ministério Público apresentar recurso ao caso e este optou por não fazê-lo, concordando com a decisão judicial e tornando definitivo o encerramento oficial do caso contra José Vargas.
On 18 July 2023, the Vienna Commercial Court dismissed the lawsuit brought by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) against SOS Balkanroute and its founder Petar Rosandić accusing them of damaging the Centre’s reputation. ICMPD argued that the statements and social media posts of both the refugee rights organisation and its chair accused them of building a “Guantanamo-like prison” in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and asked for injunction and retraction.

On 20 July 2023, the intermediary hearing in the criminal proceedings against human rights defender David Hernández Salazar will take place. He has been charged by the municipal authorities of San Blas Atempa in Oaxaca with the crimes of arson and attacks on roads.
On 21 June 2023, the Crimean Tatar human rights defender Emir-Usein Kuku was urgently hospitalised from a detention facility in Salavat, Russia, with acute pain. His wife Mariem attempted to contact the administration of the facility but received no response. Only the Russian Public Oversight Commission in Bashkortostan confirmed that the human rights defender had been hospitalised and underwent surgery.
On 19 June 2023, the woman human rights defender Golrokh Iraee announced she will not ask for a pardon as she believes that she has been prosecuted solely due to her human rights work; nor will she appear before the court of appeals as she does not recognise the revolutionary court as a competent or independent judicial body.
On 17 and 18 June 2023, three human rights defenders Abd Elrazeg Adam Mohammed, Tareg Hassan Yagoub Elmalik and El Sadeg Mohammed Ahmed Haroun were killed in El Geneina, West Darfur. On 18 June 2023, the human rights defender and lawyer El Sadeg Mohammed Ahmed Haroun was killed in El Geneina.
