On 19 July 2023, human rights defender José Vargas Sobrinho Junior had his innocence confirmed after the criminal judge of Redenção, Para, handed down a dismissal sentence (sentença de impronúncia) acquitting the human rights defender due to lack of evidence against him.

On 24 January 2022, lawyer and human rights defender José Vargas Sobrinho Junior had his house arrest replaced with other precautionary measures by the Court of Justice of Pará. This decision allows the human rights defender to more freely exercise his right to respond to the criminal charges that he faces.

On 18 July 2023, the Vienna Commercial Court dismissed the lawsuit brought by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) against SOS Balkanroute and its founder Petar Rosandić accusing them of damaging the Centre’s reputation. ICMPD argued that the statements and social media posts of both the refugee rights organisation and its chair accused them of building a “Guantanamo-like prison” in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and asked for injunction and retraction.

On 20 July 2023, the intermediary hearing in the criminal proceedings against human rights defender David Hernández Salazar will take place. He has been charged by the municipal authorities of San Blas Atempa in Oaxaca with the crimes of arson and attacks on roads.

21 июня 2023 года крымскотатарский правозащитник Эмир-Усеин Куку был срочно госпитализирован из исправительного учреждения в Салавате (Россия) с острой болью в области почек. Его жена Мерьем пыталась связаться с администрацией учреждения, но не получила ответа. Только российская Общественная Наблюдательная Комиссия в Башкортостане подтвердила, что правозащитник был госпитализирован и перенес операцию.

25 июня 2020 года Апелляционный военный суд во Власихе оставил в силе приговор крымскотатарскому правозащитнику Эмиру-Усеину Куку, осужденному к 12 годам колонии строгого режима.

On 19 June 2023, the woman human rights defender Golrokh Iraee announced she will not ask for a pardon as she believes that she has been prosecuted solely due to her human rights work; nor will she appear before the court of appeals as she does not recognise the revolutionary court as a competent or independent judicial body.

On 17 and 18 June 2023, three human rights defenders Abd Elrazeg Adam Mohammed, Tareg Hassan Yagoub Elmalik and El Sadeg Mohammed Ahmed Haroun were killed in El Geneina, West Darfur. On 18 June 2023, the human rights defender and lawyer El Sadeg Mohammed Ahmed Haroun was killed in El Geneina.
